Rubber-modified asphalt - test track at KURZ in Wendlingen

Wendlingen/Landau, June 18.06.2019th, 584.000 – Sustainable tire recycling is one of the great ecological challenges of the present. Around XNUMX tons of old tires accumulate in Germany every year. The number of vehicles will remain stable in the future and the number of tires to be disposed of will hardly decrease. The worn tires must be disposed of as environmentally friendly and professionally as possible. Ideally, used tires are recycled and the secondary raw materials obtained from them are fed back into the material cycle. Tire grinding is a technology that makes an important contribution to this. The tire meal obtained in this way can be excellently processed in new products.

Rubber waste turns into asphalt

Kurz produces rubber powder of the highest quality down to a diameter of less than 0,4 mm using one of the most modern fine grinding plants in Europe. The raw material used is peeling snakes from truck tire retreading. The high quality standard of the rubber peeling snakes guarantees a single-variety end product. This high-quality rubber powder can be used for various requirements and purposes, such as rubber asphalt.

Rubber-modified asphalt as a test track on the company premises

The test track in Wendlingen is proof of that. In order to show the quality of the rubber asphalt directly on his own farm, Kurz had rubber-modified asphalt laid on his own premises in Wendlingen. The self-produced rubber powder was used. The specialty chemicals company Evonik, which conducts research in this area and produces the additives required for processing, such as “VESTENAMER®”, was also involved. Relevant studies show that rubber asphalt with the additive VESTENAMER® is easy to process and offers decisive advantages over other types of asphalt: less rutting, longer durability and, especially when laying porous asphalt, significantly less noise. The Kirchheim-based road builder Waggershauser applied the rubber-modified asphalt professionally, without any troublesome sticking or lumps, and gained a wealth of new knowledge in the process. The project was also accompanied scientifically by the engineering company PTM Dortmund.

"The courtyard renovation work took about 14 days and is now complete," says Hanna Schöberl, Managing Director of Kurz Karkassenhandel, "we are pleased about this investment in the future and would like to thank the companies involved." On-site event planned at which various on-track driving tests will be demonstrated. A construction diary with many detailed photos can be found on the KURZ website in advance https://kurz-karkassenhandel.de/category/bautagebuch/.
