Kurz Karkassenhandel is a new partner of the New Life initiative. With its commitment, Kurz promotes the use of used tires as a sustainable raw material

Wendlingen, August 26.08.2020th, XNUMX "Kurz Karkassenhandel has been committed to environmentally friendly and responsible disposal of used tires for years. It is therefore only logical that we have now decided to join the New Life initiative as a partner," says Managing Director Hanna Schöberl, explaining Kurz Karkassenhandel's commitment to the New Life initiative. With its commitment, Kurz Karkassenhandel wants to promote the use of end-of-life tires (ELT) as a raw material for high-quality products. Hanna Schöberl adds: “The group of partners is made up of companies that, like us, produce high-quality secondary raw materials from ELT, and those that process ELT granulates into end products. With our project for the use of rubber-modified asphalt, Kurz Karkassenhandel is also currently opening up this area".

The New Life initiative

The partners in the New Life initiative have set themselves the goal of establishing recycling material from used tires (end-of-life tires, ELT for short) as a sustainable raw material for high-quality products with a long service life. The New Life 2019 initiative emerged from the working group on secondary raw materials in the German Rubber Industry Association. V. (wdk). The focus of the initiative is on raising awareness of sustainable products made from ELT, from sports flooring to footfall sound insulation and vases. Anyone interested in sustainable product alternatives will be listed in the database at www.initiative-new-life.de find it. The New Life initiative’s “Recycling Product” and “Top Recycling Product” labels also provide support in the search for sustainable products: “Recycling products” must contain at least 20 percent recycled material, and “Top Recycling Products” at least 80 percent Percent. Kurz Karkassenhandel has been an extraordinary wdk member since the beginning of the year and has now decided to support the New Life initiative as well.

Many years of expertise in professional waste tire disposal

Since its founding in 1955, Kurz has dealt with the carcass trade, and in the 80s the core business was expanded to include the professional disposal of used tires. Since then, Kurz Karkassenhandel has continued to develop and is very open to new technologies such as granulation, fine grinding and pyrolysis. Karl Kurz, company founder and namesake, who is known in the industry for his reliability and competence, is looking for new ways to recycle used tires in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

Promotion of innovative projects is part of Kurz Karkassenhandel's corporate philosophy

The partnership at New Life represents a logical continuation of the path taken: Just last year, Kurz Karkassenhandel started a model project with rubber-modified asphalt on its own company premises, but also on a street not far from the Wendlinger company headquarters. Rubber powder produced by Kurz was used, which was enriched with necessary additives such as "VESTENAMER®" from the specialty chemicals company Evonik. On a daily basis, the terrain and roads are burdened with trucks and cars arriving and departing. The result of the previous tests: The rubber-modified asphalt offers decisive advantages compared to other types of asphalt: less rutting, longer durability and, especially when laying porous asphalt, a significantly lower noise level.
