The entire Kurz Karkassenhandel team mourns the loss of company founder and former managing director Karl Kurz. After a short illness, he died at the age of 89 on December 24, 2021 surrounded by his family.
"It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to my grandfather Karl Kurz. For more than 65 years he managed and shaped the Kurz Karkassenhandel company. He leaves a void in our hearts that cannot be filled. I'm infinitely grateful for the time I was able to spend with him," says Hanna Schöberl, Managing Director of Kurz Karkassenhandel since 2017.
Karl Kurz has created a unique life's work: In 1955 - at the age of just 23 - Karl Kurz founded his trade in carcasses and used tires at Olgaeck in Stuttgart. This was followed by moves to Leinfelden-Echterdingen in the early 1960s and finally to Wendlingen in 1989. For more than 65 years, tires have been Karl Kurz's life's work: from tire fitting to the tire and carcass trade to the sustainable disposal of old tires.
Karl Kurz was highly valued in the industry and by his employees for his reliability, competence and commitment. Early on in his career he made numerous contacts all over the world - Karl Kurz was a "born European" from the start. Thanks to his enormous openness, he quickly built up a large network and a high level of expertise in the international tire markets. Winning new customers, maintaining contacts and promoting ideas – that was his passion, which he pursued with a great deal of energy and the old-school commercial mentality.
At the same time, Karl Kurz was committed to the industry: He was a co-founder of the working group for old tire disposal in the BRV and the ZARE initiative (certified old tire disposal company), which campaigns for sustainable and environmentally friendly old tire disposal. Kurz Karkassenhandel has been producing high-quality rubber powder at its Landau site since 2015, which is used to make rubber-modified asphalt, among other things. One of Karl Kurz's goals in life was for as many roads as possible to be covered with sustainable rubber-modified asphalt in the future. Karl Kurz was active in his company until 2021.
Karl Kurz was not just an entrepreneur, he was also a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a passionate driver, hunter, golfer and card player. He traveled to countless countries and campaigned for many social issues. In business and in private, Karl Kurz was a veteran and visionary who will be sorely missed.
