Wendlingen/Landau, July 13.07.2023th, XNUMX The certified waste management company KURZ Karkassenhandel is very familiar with the use of rubber powder in asphalt - the company produces the rubber powder itself from old tires. A large part of the site at the Landau site has now been covered with a surface made of rubber-modified asphalt.
"Rubber asphalt is better than standard asphalt in almost all properties," explains Hanna Schöberl, Managing Director of KURZ Karkassenhandel. That is why the medium-sized company consistently relies on the innovative and sustainable product AOKTO for the new asphalt surface of the company premises in Landau. This is a special type of asphalt that is improved by adding rubber particles. The addition of rubber gives the asphalt a higher density, which prevents water from penetrating and thus helps to prevent cracking. The product used in the new floor covering is produced by the certified waste disposal company itself. The starting material is peeling snakes from truck tire retreading, which guarantee a single-variety end product thanks to their high quality standard. Rubber asphalt offers a number of advantages that make it an attractive option for various applications. The company provided the proof itself: As early as 2019, a test track with rubber-modified asphalt was laid on the KURZ company premises near Wendlingen. After these four years, the rubber asphalt, which is used by heavy trucks, is still like new in Wendlingen.
Ready to use in just four days
On June 12.06.23th, 28 the starting shot was fired in Landau with the milling of the asphalt surface. The first base course could be applied the very next day and the top course was completely finished after just four days. "Only a week after the start of the work, our site was fully usable again," says Patrick Hornig, production manager at the Landau site. A very short period of time compared to the drying time of concrete, which is XNUMX days. It seems all the more incomprehensible that in Germany roads are still being built with mastic asphalt or motorways with concrete surfaces.
Circular economy for a better future
With the construction project in Landau, KURZ Karkassenhandel relies on a durable, environmentally friendly product that clearly stands out from comparable asphalt mixes and promises excellent properties. Rubber asphalt is also ahead in terms of production, transport and workability. The addition of rubber particles improves the flexibility and resilience of the asphalt, resulting in greater resistance to cracking and wear. As a result, the surface stays intact longer and needs to be repaired or renewed less often. Last but not least, rubber-modified asphalt is a sustainable alternative, in which the rubber particles obtained from old tires are processed in the sense of a circular economy.
