On May 5, 2023, Dr. Thomas Gebhart MdB was a guest at the certified waste disposal company KURZ Karkassenhandel in Landau and dealt intensively with the advantages of rubber asphalt from recycled old tires for use in road construction.
Sustainable waste tire disposal is an important building block towards a functioning circular economy. KURZ Karkassenhandel has been campaigning for this issue for years and, as a certified waste disposal company, works 100 percent in accordance with the guidelines of the Circular Economy Act. Dr. Thomas Gebhart (CDU/CSU), member of the Bundestag for the Southern Palatinate in Berlin and chairman of the Committee for Climate Protection and Energy, visited KURZ in Landau on May 5, 2023 for the company's 68th birthday and spoke with KURZ Managing Director Hanna Schöberl about sustainable Waste tire disposal in the spirit of the circular economy is discussed.
The focus of the more than one-hour visit was the AOKTO rubber powder from KURZ, which is ideal for modifying asphalt. At the Landau site, KURZ processes high-quality rubber products into a profit maker for the asphalt. The AOKTO rubber powder is added to the asphalt mixture in a dry process. Rubber-modified asphalt is very durable and environmentally friendly: CO2 emissions can be reduced through low temperatures during paving, savings in primary raw materials (urban mining) and transport, as well as simple storage in big bags. Rubber asphalt also has benefits for safety on the road: the subsoil reduces spray and thus contributes to better visibility on wet roads. The longer durability ensures less rutting and blow-ups. In addition, aquaplaning is reduced.
Cities, communities and the country can benefit from rubber-modified asphalt in many ways: the longer durability leads to cost savings, fewer construction sites and less congestion. This pleases the citizens and saves tax money. In addition, the use of recycling materials is a contribution to environmental protection and means an image boost for the community. Road builders, on the other hand, get a material that is easy to process with AOKTO - without sticking, clumping or unpleasant odors. A special wax coats the rubber particles and protects them from high temperatures during installation, so that the rubber powder can develop its full performance on the asphalt.
Hanna Schöberl explains the numerous advantages of AOKTO rubber powder.
“With its temperature resistance, AOKTO is a winner for the asphalt. Our 'test tracks' with rubber asphalt, some of which have been in place for more than 13 years, show the values of newly laid asphalt.", says Hanna Schöberl.
Thomas Gebhart MdB showed great interest in the extensive advantages of tire recycling and wants to campaign for the paving of rubber-modified asphalt in the future.
