Wendlingen/Landau, 13.07.2023 Mit dem Einsatz von Gummimehl im Asphalt ist der zertifizierte Entsorgungsfachbetrieb KURZ Karkassenhandel bestens vertraut – das Unternehmen stellt das verwendete Gummimehl selbst aus Altreifen her. Nun wurde am Standort Landau ein Großteil des Geländes mit einer Decke aus gummimodifiziertem Asphalt versehen.
„Gummiasphalt ist in nahezu allen Eigenschaften besser als der Standardasphalt“, erklärt Hanna Schöberl, Geschäftsführerin von KURZ Karkassenhandel. Deshalb setzt das mittelständische Unternehmen bei der neuen Asphalt-Decke des Betriebsgeländes in Landau konsequenterweise auf das innovative und nachhaltige Produkt AOKTO. Dabei handelt es sich um eine spezielle Art von Asphalt, die durch Zugabe von Gummipartikeln verbessert wird. Durch die Beimischung von Gummi erhält der Asphalt eine höhere Dichte, die das Eindringen von Wasser verhindert und somit zur Vermeidung von Rissbildung beiträgt. Das im neuen Bodenbelag verwendete Produkt produziert der zertifizierte Entsorger selbst. Als Ausgangsmaterial dienen Schälschlangen aus der Lkw-Reifen-Retreading, die durch einen hohen Qualitätsstandard ein sortenreines Endprodukt garantieren. Gummiasphalt bietet eine Reihe von Vorteilen, die ihn zu einer attraktiven Option für verschiedene Anwendungen machen. Den Beweis trat das Unternehmen selbst an: Bereits 2019 wurde auf dem KURZ Betriebsgelände bei Wendlingen eine Teststrecke mit gummimodifiziertem Asphalt angelegt. Nach diesen vier Jahren ist der Gummiasphalt, der ja von schweren LKW befahren wird, in Wendlingen noch immer wie neu.
Ready for use after just four days
On 12 June 2013, the work began in Landau with the milling of the asphalt surface. The first base course was applied the very next day and the surface course was completely finished after just four days. "Our site was fully usable again just one week after the work began," says a delighted Patrick Hornig, Production Manager at the Landau site. A very short period of time compared to the drying time of concrete, which is 28 days. This makes it all the more incomprehensible that roads in Germany continue to be built with mastic asphalt or motorways with a concrete surface.
Circular economy for a better future
With the construction project in Landau, KURZ Karkassenhandel has opted for a durable, environmentally friendly product that clearly stands out from comparable asphalt mixes and promises outstanding properties. Rubber asphalt is also ahead in terms of production, transport and workability. The addition of rubber particles improves the flexibility and elasticity of the asphalt, resulting in greater resistance to cracking and wear. As a result, the surface remains intact for longer and needs to be repaired or renewed less frequently. Last but not least, rubber-modified asphalt is a sustainable alternative in which the rubber particles obtained from used tyres are processed further in the sense of a circular economy.
