KURZ has been involved in the carcass trade for almost 70 years. In the 1980s, the company began with the professional disposal of used tyres and has always moved with the times. - This also applies to new technologies such as granulation, fine grinding and pyrolysis. KURZ is highly flexible: the company can dispose of all types of tyres quickly and finds suitable solutions even for large tyres and more difficult fractions.
Als zertifizierter Entsorgungsfachbetrieb holt KURZ die Altreifen mit verschiedensten Fahrzeugen vor Ort beim Kunden ab. Die Reifen – und natürlich auch andere Rubber waste – werden dann in den Niederlassungen sortiert und von Störstoffen befreit. Spezielle Prüfungen für weiter nutzbare Reifen sind ebenso selbstverständlich, wie das Aussortieren von beispielsweise bemalten Reifen, Reifen mit Dichtmitteln oder Notlaufeigenschaften, denn dies alles ist für die stoffliche Verwertung unbrauchbar und muss über die Zementindustrie verwertet werden. Die Reifen werden möglichst regional verwertet. Nur mit großer Sorgfalt ist umweltgerechtes Handeln möglich.
Material recycling has a future
KURZ intends to further expand the area of material recycling with the production of rubber powder. In addition to shredding tyres, the company aims to at least partially cover another process in-house. "Everyone is talking about the circular economy. It's not right to only use a product like a tyre for a short time and then burn it. There will be more and more applications for material recycling in the future. In this context, it would be desirable if the use of rubber powder in asphalt were to be authorised nationwide," says Hanna Schöberl, Managing Director of KURZ Karkassenhandel. Three years ago, KURZ itself had rubber-modified asphalt laid on the company premises in Wendlingen. The quality is outstanding, even under the heaviest loads. The company has also had excellent experience with tyre retreading for decades and predominantly uses retreaded tyres for its secondary tyres.
Initiatives for used tyre recycling
Karl Kurz, the founder and senior director of the company who passed away in December, was a founding member of the ZARE initiative, an association of certified waste management companies that are committed to professional tyre disposal. The initiative now has 19 member companies. And experience shows that many car dealerships and garages are attaching more and more importance to sustainable tyre disposal. KURZ Karkassenhandel is also active in Allianz Zukunft Reifen (AZuR): a network of different companies, organisations, colleges and universities that are working on new ways to recycle used tyres. The company is also involved in the NEW LIFE initiative and the German Tyre and Rubber Waste Recycling Association. These two networks of WDK and BVSE are further important pillars for advancing the topic of used tyre recycling.
