Wendlingen, 09.01.2025 In 2025, KURZ Karkassenhandel GmbH is celebrating a special anniversary: for 70 years now, the medium-sized company has stood for innovative and sustainable solutions in used tyre disposal. What began in 1955 as a small family business has developed into a certified waste management company with two locations and an international network.
From vision to success story
The history of KURZ Karkassenhandel is characterised by continuous development and a clear commitment to quality and sustainability. Back in the 1950s, company founder Karl Kurz was already focusing on professional solutions for old tyres - an area that was still in its infancy at the time. Today, the company stands for a comprehensive range of services, from the professional disposal and reuse of tyres to the manufacture of innovative rubber products. KURZ consistently focuses on responsible recycling in Germany and Europe.
"Our 70th anniversary is a milestone that we are very proud of," says Hanna Raff, Managing Director of KURZ Karkassenhandel. "At the same time, it is an obligation for us to continue our pioneering work and make our contribution to a sustainable circular economy." The company is committed to environmentally friendly used tyre recycling and recovery in Germany and Europe and is involved in the AZuR (Alliance Future Tyres) network, among others.
Pioneers in sustainability
KURZ Karkassenhandel adopted sustainable management as a basic principle at an early stage. This means that used tyres and other rubber products are not only disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner, but are also retreaded or converted into innovative products wherever possible. In contrast to "flying traders", KURZ takes responsibility and is committed to a sustainable circular economy in which used tyres are recycled in the best possible way within Germany and the EU instead of ending up on illegal or extremely dubious disposal routes in third countries.
In 2018, Managing Director Hanna Raff took over the company from her grandfather Karl Kurz and has been focussing on innovative approaches to the circular economy ever since. Under her leadership, the topic of sustainability is being further advanced at KURZ, including the production of rubber powder for use in sustainable rubber asphalt. The Wendlingen and Landau sites also reflect KURZ's commitment to climate protection and resource conservation: with photovoltaic systems, paperless office work and regional recycling loops, the company is one of the pioneers in the industry.
An anniversary with a view
The anniversary year will be accompanied by numerous activities, including two anniversary celebrations at the Landau and Wendlingen sites: Employees and customers can look forward to colourful summer parties for the whole family, where, in addition to delicious food, there will be some exciting activities and insights into the work of KURZ. These celebrations will honour the milestones in the company's history and look to the future of the company. "We would like to use this anniversary to thank our customers, partners and employees who have made a significant contribution to our success," emphasises Hanna Raff.
