ZARE sounds the alarm: Illegal dumping of used tyres is increasing rapidly

The ZARE initiative (Certified Waste Tyre Disposers) has been documenting illegal waste tyre dumping in Germany for years. An analysis of the reported cases from the past year shows an increase in illegal dumping in the countryside. Last year, over 31,000 cases of illegal dumping were reported, which represents an increase of 13,000 tyres compared to the previous year. The number of unreported cases could be even higher. ZARE takes stock of the past year and urgently appeals to consumers and used tyre collection points to take the alarming facts seriously. The urgent appeal is to only use certified companies for disposal in order to take joint action against illegal dumping of used tyres. Illegal waste tyre disposal is a punishable offence and carries heavy fines. In most cases, the local authorities bear the disposal costs as the perpetrators are difficult to identify. Proper disposal at certified companies ensures sustainable recycling management and environmentally friendly utilisation of raw materials.
