If you enter "tyre fire" on YouTube, you can quickly see what can happen when a tyre warehouse catches fire. Once the black, round tyres have caught fire, there is always a need for help and it can take a very long time to extinguish such a fire.
KURZ Karkassenhandel in Landau has therefore been offering itself as a training ground to the volunteer fire brigade for years. This was also the case on 5 June 2019 on the company premises in Landau. At 7.00 pm, the volunteer fire brigade in Landau received the test alarm. In no time at all, 24 firefighters in full breathing apparatus arrived with four vehicles (an auxiliary firefighting vehicle, two crew transport vehicles and a tanker) and a telescopic boom. The task was to extinguish the fire and "rescue" 3 dummies.
The fire brigade laid siege to the company premises with great commitment: ladders were deployed, the vehicles were strategically positioned, hoses were rolled out and each of the 24 firefighters quickly found their place of deployment.
The plant manager, Andreas Döring, was impressed. He thanked the volunteer fire brigade, who in turn are very grateful that the company is able to organise such exercises.
"Exercises like these are absolutely essential, especially for young volunteers in the volunteer fire brigade - only if we develop a routine during exercises can we get fires under control safely, quickly and reliably in an emergency," confirmed the head of operations.
