$\text{CO}_2$ pricing: What does the $\text{BEHG}$ mean for the disposal of your old tyres?

Since 1 January 2024, the Fuel Emissions Trading Act (BEHG) also applies to the thermal treatment of waste in Germany. This means that operators of waste incineration plants now have to purchase CO₂ emission certificates – a measure that also indirectly affects the disposal of old tyres.

Seal and silent tyres, as well as silage tyres that are used for a long time, can only be utilised thermally. We pay a full price for disposal; the costs for CO₂ emission certificates are not shown separately.
