Where have all the tyres gone? We are currently asking ourselves this burning question after the German Rubber Industry Association (wdk) published shocking figures. A total of 87,000 tonnes of used tyres have disappeared without a trace. This relevant quantity of tyres is missing - and this has dramatic consequences for us, our partners at ZARE and the entire recycling industry in Germany.
It is reasonable to assume that this huge quantity of used tyres has been disposed of illegally or taken abroad, where nobody knows what happens to them. They are probably incinerated under questionable conditions or dumped in landfill sites. This not only affects the environment, but also all certified waste disposal companies, recyclers and reutilisers in Germany. Medium-sized companies in particular, which depend on a stable supply of materials, are feeling the effects of this development.
Our appeal to you as our customers and partners: Stay away from rogue traders and dubious offers! Used tyres belong in the hands of certified disposal companies. This is the only way we can ensure that they are processed in an environmentally friendly manner and in line with the circular economy - be it through retreading, material recycling or other sustainable methods. Help us to prevent illegal disposal methods and support the sustainable use of valuable raw materials.
